Our special guest this episode is Helen Fairclough, who has the weighty position of Director of Business Relaunch for the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre. In our chat with Helen, we go behind the scenes of the year that was for the Centre, for Helen and the Victorian Events Industry.
What we find is an organisation and leader who have been empowered to evolve to meet the challenges that 2020 presented to us all. Though the situation has been challenging, Helen and the team have used it as an opportunity to pause, reflect and reset to help secure the venue’s future and establish a point of difference for customers. The aim of the ‘business relaunch’ is to explore new products, services and ways of working and we find out that there are some genuine, tangible results already shining through with this change in approach.
This is a case study in what it means to build innovation into the DNA of an organisation. The MCEC has moved away from understanding people based on their job function and valuing them for their contribution.
When someone asks you who you are, what do you say? Do you start by giving your job title? If you do, you may have lost your identity in your career. In Keep Calm And Reclaim Your Identity, we look at how we can lose our identity when we blur the lines between work and personal life. This is your reminder that you are more than your job!
